The South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue, Inc. is holding a celebrity bowling fundraiser on Saturday, May 16 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Strikes of Boca Raton, located on the corner of Military Trail and Town Center Road.  Joining us for the “Celebrity Bowl” will be Joyce Kaufman, the very popular afternoon radio personality from 850 WFTL, as well as Mrs. Florida from the Mrs. U.S. Beauties National Pageant.  A donation of just $15 per person will include bowling time, shoes and refreshments.  There will also be door prizes and raffles. The current economic situation has had a direct effect on the animals.  As a non-profit rescue group, South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue has been dedicated to taking in as many animals as possible; there have been more than 100 dogs rescued in the past four months, alone. The “Celebrity Bowl” is a chance to positively impact the dire situation, and show that volunteerism and support is still alive and well in these economic times. “These dogs are coming to us from shelters, as strays or owner surrenders, and include animals that are abused and neglected,” said Bobbie Weinstein of the South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue. “Now more than ever we need helping hands to reach out to those who cannot help themselves and join us for a fun night and a great cause,” said Weinstein.   The South Florida Siberian Husky Rescue is completely volunteer-driven with all funding coming from donations. Funds are raised to cover the cost of every animal rescued.  A dog receiving a complete physical, shots, microchip and spay or neuter, as well as being tested for heartworm/parasites, costs approximately $500 per dog.  Many times these costs can be even higher due to injuries or illness.   Donations are not the only way to help. The rescue is always looking for people willing to open their hearts and homes and become Foster Parents. Foster Parents provide a temporary safe-haven for Siberian Huskies on death row until a forever home is found; giving them a second chance at life and at no cost. There are a limited number of spaces available for the “Celebrity Bowl” so call or e-mail to reserve space for you, your family and friends for a fun-filled night out. You can also register at www.sibrescue.com.
