A Writers Dream Come True

Writers' Studio is Randy Jernigan's dream come true

The Writers' Studio is a private writing school based in Pleasant Grove, Utah that began with one writer's dream. In 2007, Randy Jernigan decided to revisit an idea of pursuing his lifelong dream of owning and operating a writing school. He chose the Utah County location "because of the talent and enthusiasm for writing found here." He then called Utah author Geri Taylor, knowing her writing history and teaching ability would be a great asset to the school. The Writer's Studio was re-established in October 2007 and is recognizing its first anniversary. Jernigan and Taylor are published authors and co-instructors at the school which offers classroom or private instruction geared toward developing and promoting the talents of writers. Guest authors and established writers also give lectures in the classes. The Writer's Studio initially opened in the late 1980s on the second floor of the Continental Plaza in downtown Provo, Utah. After a few successful years, the classes were dissolved, and the teaching duo pursued individual writing careers: Taylor began writing a weekly humor column for the Utah County Journal and worked as the Women's Editor for the Utah Adventures Magazine. Jernigan returned to Milton, Fla., where he wrote entertainment news for the Santa Rosa Press Gazette and Star Magazine. Since that time Randy has written extensively for other magazines including People, London's Daily Mail, In-Touch Weekly, Life and Style Weekly, Woman's World and the Globe Magazine. He has also published a book of short stories and recently sold a script treatment to a film studio about Charles Dickens. The classes offered through the studio are structured to provide instruction on dozens of specific topics. Some of which include "Jump Starting your Writing Career," freelance, novel, screen play and children's book writing. In addition to the classroom instruction, The Writer's Studio offers students an opportunity to publish their work through guided networking within the industry. "A lot of other writers' groups focus on just the technical side of writing," Jernigan said. "We focus on assisting people launch a writing career." For example, "EN2GO international with Steve Wazinak (one of the fore founders of Apple computer) has entered into contract with the studio to write press and features about him and his company," Jernigan said. Also the studio is currently in the process of publishing an anthology of short stories, each written by students who have attended classes at the school.
