This past political season saw a bumper crop of fine political ads but none finer than the promo “Been There” for HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher which won two Gold Awards at the annual Promax Promo Awards Competition. It won for “News/Information Program Spot” and it was the only Gold winner in the “Funniest Promo” category. Edited at Nitrous Ltd. 260 Fifth Avenue, NYC, owner/editor Paul C. Rosen, HBO creative director director Camille Errante, director Chris Stifel, producer Chris Dennistorn and others took footage of George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, John Mc Clain and Barak Obama from stock footage and shot Bill Maher in different poses against green screen, and rough cut a composite in Avid before the final compositing to create the award winning promo.
