Volkswagen Hikes Polo Price By 2.9%



However, Polo will be available on its existing price to the buyers who book the car before December 31st. The company has blamed the constant rise in the price of input materials for this hike.

Volkswagen Polo, one of the most sought after compact hatchbacks in the Indian market, is all set to get expensive by about 2.9 percent from the January this year, as per a statement given by the company in a press release issued on the matter. However, Polo will be available on its existing price to the buyers who book the car before December 31st. The company has blamed the constant rise in the price of input materials for this hike.

Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said in a statement that the company has been faced with a constant rise in input cost over the past several months and has tried its best to absorb it. However, in order to continue to maintain its quality standards that its customers expect from it, the company have to increase the price by a small percentage, he added.

The Polo hatchback was launched in the country in March 2010 and the company has managed to sell more than 17,000 units of this car in the period of March –Nov 2010. Polo is the first ever made-in-India car of German auto giant Volkswagen and the company manufactures it at its Chakan Plant, in Pune.

The Volkswagen Polo model is currently taking on with the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Swift, Nissan Micra, Fiat Punto and Chevrolet Beat. At present, Polo is available in the price range of Rs 4,42,000 - Rs 6,82,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Besides Polo, the company sells about half a dozen models in the Indian market including entry-level sedan Vento, premium sedans Jetta and Passat, iconic Beetle, luxury car Phaton and power full luxury SUV Touareg.  

Auto majors like Genera Motors, Hyundai, Tata and Maruti have already announced to hike the price of their respective cars in the Indian market from January 1st .
