How to market your product or service on a low budget.

Before you can market your product or service, you need a working model of the product, or some history behind your service. Without an example of your product, it is still in the concept stage, or idea stage. It is much easier to talk about something if you have one for people to see and feel, get testimonials from customers who have used your service. Paintings speak thousands of words; customers like to tell others if your service is good.

What is marketing, quite simply it is telling people about your product or service. Professional Marketers working for International companies spend large sums of money on marking campaigns, to get awareness for their goods or services, to their target market. Their products become brands in time; brands are manufactures names that people associate with their products.

However people like you and me don’t have large sums of money to spend on such campaigns. We must be innovative and find efficient ways to launch our products and services.

What ever you product or service is, it simply solves someone’s problem.  For example a brush sweeps leaves into a neat pile, a bar of chocolate solves a persons craving for something sweet, a limited edition print is an ideal starting point for a collector, it also provides decorative quality to someone’s home, it may be an investment and rise in value. If it is limited in number not many people have them, this is uniqueness, and people like to own things that few other people have.

There is nothing for nothing, everything costs something, adverts in local papers or magazines cost money. If for example you are an artist, your marketing could be helped along by offering to give the winner of a local competition a print featuring your work. This has several advantages, one, it costs less to produce a print and have it framed, than   paying for an image advert in a magazine. You could take this concept one step further by offering to paint the winner of a bonny baby competition, many magazines run these types of competitions.

You will probably be asked to attend the winner’s ceremony; other press people will be there, ask them about colleagues who write about your products or services, contact them and ask if they are interested in writing about you and the event you are attending. This needs a little thought and research, it is sometimes a daunting task, but keep going be patient and be methodical, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Magazines are written for a large number of niche products and services, contact these organizations tell them what you have made, offer to send them one, they may come up with an article about you, more exposure for little cost.

Find someone who is connected with the product, if for example you produce limited edition Giclee prints of footballers; send a framed print to the footballer. Do some researching before you do this, find out whom their agent is, maybe link the giving of your gift to a charitable event that the footballer is involved in. This will add interest to your project. Contact your local business support people and tell them about your business.

Business support people are there to help you; they may suggest marketing activities that will publicize your product or service. Remember these people are interested in generating business, that’s their job, business generation is not a game, think as yourself as a job creator. Wow!
