Cluttercast: Where A Mink Coat Is Considered clutter

A new word, a new way of giving; Cluttercast is the right idea at the right time-- right at the intersection where a downward economy meets a surge in hope.

Clutter: a confused multitude of things Cast: to send forth, to shed, Clutter + Cast= to shed or send forth a confused multitude of things A new word, a new way of giving; Cluttercast (http://cluttercast.com) is the right idea at the right time--  right at the intersection where a downward economy meets a surge in hope. Inspired by the spirit of unity represented by President Obama,  Darryle Pollack created Cluttercast as her 2009 New Year’s resolution.  An artist and writer who lives in Carmel, California;  Pollack was, like millions of people, desperate to clear out her clutter.  Only she took her annual resolution a step further.   She started a blog, Cluttercast.com, where she posts an item a day, tells the story behind it, then gives it away to someone who wants it-- for free.   "As a cancer survivor, I’m lucky just to be here.  This is a way I can continue to ‘pay it forward’.   I have way too much stuff, more than my children could ever want or need.  And though I give a lot to charity, sometimes it’s hard to let go --especially when something is sentimental or valuable.  Cluttercast is  a way to give-- and spread a little positivity out into the universe.  It’s connecting with other people, and it’s becoming really addictive." Pollack is so inspired by her experience that she is cluttercasting her mink coat, bought from Beverly Hills’ most exclusive furrier.  The mink will join her eclectic collection of clutter-- which ranges from a handmade vintage quilt-- to a pair of authentic lederhosen-- to a wallet made out of a toad.  Her clutter is now in homes all over the country, and her idea is meeting with a unanimously positive response. "Some of the people who got something from me, are cluttercasting themselves.  People don’t just want to be getting; they want to be giving. " Such as Krista Colvin, a professional organizer in Portland, Oregon, who heard about cluttercasting after she "met" Pollack on Twitter.  Colvin immediately committed to cluttercast an item every week.   As she explains on her blog, she knows from professional experience how hard it can be to let go:   "That is what my clients say... my mom says it, I say it too. We want our things to go to someone that will love them + adore them as much as we used to.  I'M IN. I AM SO IN. I'm committing to ridding myself of clutter ala Cluttercast style."
