The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Announces a Walk and Auction to Raise Funds to Find a Cure

The Portland affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will hold its third annual Purple Stride Walk and Silent Auction on September 13, 2009 to raise money to advance pancreatic cancer research.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network of Portland will hold it's 3rd annual PurpleStride Walk and Silent Auction on September 13, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. to raise funds to advance pancreatic cancer research.  The 2.5 mile walk, with a 1.5 mile kid and stroller option, takes place at the scenic Mary S. Young State Park in West Linn, Oregon. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States, yet it is the most under-funded, under-recognized and least-studied of the leading cancer killers. Currently, less than 2 percent of the National Cancer Institute’s federal research funding is allocated to pancreatic cancer. This year, an estimated 38,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and over 34,000 will die within a year. The funds we raise at our walk and silent auction can help change this situation.   Preregistration for our event is available online and the cost is for $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under. Event-day registration is $35 for adults and $25 for kids. Pancreatic cancer survivors and children 3 and under can attend for free. Register online at www.pancan.org/purplestrideportland09 In addition to the walk there will be a silent auction, entertainment, educational materials, and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network merchandise for sale.  We will also have a wall of honor to remember family members and friends who have died of pancreatic cancer. For additional information on participating or sponsorship opportunities, contact event chair Ariane Chapple at achapple@pancanvolunteer.org For more information about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Portland’s affiliate’s mission, check out their Web site at www.pancan.org. About the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization raises money for direct private funding of research—and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network fills the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers reliable, personalized information they need to make informed decisions. We create a sense of hope and community so no one has to face pancreatic cancer alone. The organization helps support individuals and communities all across the country, like the
Portland Oregon affiliate, work together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
