Vodafone recently announced the results of its annual âcritical time response', which examines the changing attitudes and behaviour of the British workforce in relation to email communications.
This study has revealed that a third of U.K businesses expect a response to email business enquiries within two hours. In addition to this, a growing number of individuals have even lower patience levels, expecting a response within half an hour. On average, it is estimated that lost opportunities, due to a failure to reply promptly to email messages cost businesses £18,840 a year.
Vodafone U.K's Enterprise Business Unit Director, Mark Bond commented: âThis year we have seen mobile email access, more then ever before, become an essential piece of the business armoury. This survey clearly demonstrates that the way we approach our work is changing and businesses need to move to address that change.
Leading hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server providers, Genesis Communications have commented on the reports by recommending that businesses consider email solutions in the form of Blackberrys and hosted Microsoft exchange server 2007.
A spokesperson Genesis Communications commented: âAs people's expectations of businesses grow, these have to be met by prompt email communications. If you do not have the ability to reply almost instantaneously to client requests then you are missing out on new business.â
One of the ways in which businesses can ensure that they have the ability to deal with email in a prompt and efficient manner is to equip mobile workers with BlackBerry business phones and by rolling out a professional, enterprise-class email client such as Microsoft Exchange.
