Microsoft Applications To Be Made Available Online (24/12/2008)

Software giants Microsoft have announced plans to release online versions of its software packages, including Exchange and SharePoint Server 2007.

Software giants Microsoft have announced plans to release online versions of its software packages, including Exchange and SharePoint Server 2007. For the first time, these applications will be accessible via a web browser, rather than requiring installation from a CD. Microsoft has said that it anticipates that the weakening of the global economy will see an increase in the web-based software market. Speaking to Reuters, Stephen Elop, president of Microsoft's business division, said within five years, half of the use of Exchange and SharePoint could be from the cloud. Between now and then, a year or two or whatever, if it's going to be tough economic times, that means we expect quite a lot of movement in that direction, a lot of people taking advantage of that. I think the economy will help it.        A spokesperson for Genesis Communications, a leading Exchange, CRM 4 and SharePoint hosting provider commented on this news by saying: “Having the ability to access Microsoft’s range of applications through a web browser will strengthen their already broad appeal. This announcement will make these services even more accessible to the end user.”        About Genesis                                 One of the Premier Business SaaS Hosting providers, Genesis operate out of a state of the art data centre in Leicester.
