Hamill Mfg Co has a rich history, beginning at the end of WWII and reaching across 3 generations. Shortly after getting out of the Navy, my Grandfather built a picnic table for his wife June, and that started the whole motion. Soon, Richard B Hamill was building picnic tables for the states of Michigan and Florida. Back in 1948, an entire “straight truck” load of tables destined for Florida purchased the $50.00 dollar branding iron that we still use today,
From picnic tables to log cabins, eventually, leading to Hamill Homes, building custom houses across Michigan and stretching as far out as Colorado. Built to suit custom houses, with efficiency in design and performance over the long run as a priority.
In 2001 Rick Hamill formed Component Builders, revolutionizing residential framing in Colorado. At the peak of construction we were the largest volume framer in the state. Dad (Rick) running the show, and displaying an example of work ethic reminiscent of Grandpa (Richard B Hamill), was never afraid to get out with the crews and do some heavy lifting. 2000 sq. ft. houses were framed in 1 day because of the systems that he put in place. It was crazy to say the least, at one point framing 28 houses a week. This was the boom before the bust. With the economy slowing, especially in housing, the company was dissolved and we decided to get back to our roots.
Hamill Mfg is reborn! We decided to reform the company and start specializing in custom woodwork, from gun cabinets to furniture and beyond. I was the Equipment Manager and Chief Operator for Component Builders and had a metal working background. Mostly working on custom motorcycles and hot rods in my free time, but the family traditions eventually shine through. There is something about time and age that make you appreciate what brought your family so far, and that for us, is a love for fine woodworking done in a rustic style. Something that you can’t buy at a store. Something that you will pass to your children. 3 generations of style and construction, all looking to one another for inspiration and experience, all different to a degree, but all Hamill.
We strive to build “heirloom quality” furniture and fixtures that will be passed through generations of your family. Built heavy and finished to last a lifetime. A lot of our equipment is from my Grandfathers original workshop, as he was building up the shop in the 1950′s, this stuff was purchased “used”. They still work great and most importantly, built in the USA!
