1 in 5 think they are better than Simon Cowell

Research by the UK’s leading discount and voucher code website, http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk of 1,192 people across the UK, polled respondents to find out if they ‘judge’ the contestants on TV talent shows such as The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent.



According to the poll, by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, more than two thirds of those asked, 67%, admitted to ‘judging’ the current contestants on this year’s ‘The X Factor’ on ITV. 19% of these respondents claimed they would make better judges than Simon Cowell, whilst 71% thought they’d be better at judging than Louis Walsh.



A further 47% admitted to ‘judging’ the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing from their living room, however almost 1 in 3, 32%, thought that every celebrity learning to dance on the show was ‘talented’.



When asked by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk ‘do you find yourself shouting at the TV during talent shows?’ the majority, 51%, answered ‘yes,’ with 28% saying they often feel ‘angry’ at the judges’ decisions, compared to 24% who believed the judges’ feedback is ‘mostly true’.



Of those asked, only 16% had voted to keep their favourite contestant in a TV talent show such as The X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing. However, 83% admitted to feeling ‘angry’ when their favourite contestant was voted off the show.



42% of those asked agree that Alesha Dixon is a ‘capable’ judge on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, however, in contrast, 12% believed they would give more ‘constructive feedback’ than the pop star.



More than 1 in 5, 21%, cited that Piers Morgan was a ‘poor’ judge and a further 53% thought that they would make a better judge of talent than the former newspaper editor.

“I think many people find it difficult not to get involved and give their opinion when watching talent shows such as the X Factor. There will always be people that disagree with what the judges have to say, which can often lead to a lot of shouting at the TV!”

“TV talent shows are certainly dominating weekend and evening TV at the moment and are really a concept that the British public love to get behind. It is a great to see a regular member of the public be rewarded for their natural talent, or in some cases see celebrities make a fool out of themselves on national television.”



“I believe the shows allow members of the public to almost ‘powerful’ in the way that their vote can dictate another person’s future, which is probably why they are so addictive.”
