V&A Ceramics Collection at the V&A Shop



For the first time in a century the V&A is redisplaying its ceramics collection, the greatest and most comprehensive in the world.

Following a five year redesign the galleries will open on 18 September 2009, telling the story of world ceramics with 3000 objects on display from the earliest Chinese pottery to contemporary ceramic art. To celebrate the redisplay the V&A Shop is showcasing a range of ceramics that echo the diversity of the V&A’s collections. A new publication Masterpieces of World Ceramics edited by Reino Liefkes and Hilary Young accompanies the new galleries (available now). Vivienne Foley Sculptural porcelain thrown, turned and constructed on the wheel from this sought-after designer. From £420 - £4,200 Gésine Hackenberg Hackenberg’s work has recently been acquired by the V&A. The V&A Shop is pleased to offer examples of her signature ‘kitchen’ series jewellery. From £250 - £1,000 Pauline Wiertz Prominent Dutch ceramic artist Wiertz creates surreal, sculptural objet, inspired by the idea of the ‘Wunderkammer’, or ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. From £200 - £650 Michael Geertson ‘Closely separated vases’. Geertson’s work will be displayed in the V&A’s new gallery. £85 each Dennis Chinaworks Collectable hand thrown pottery, decorated in the British Arts and Crafts tradition. From £600 - £1,500 Arturo Mora Traditional Spanish lustreware by ceramicist Arturo Mora. Many of Mora’s pieces are similar to Spanish medieval and renaissance objects in the V&A collection. From £45 - £200 Ismail Yigit A specialist in the art of cini pottery (traditional Turkish pottery). Many pieces are reproduced from the V&A collection.
