The first ever European SME Week kicks off on 6 May. This major campaign covers activities related to small businesses in 34 countries, giving a helping hand to those already up and running and encouraging young people to choose entrepreneurship as a career.
Scotland in Business under the umbrella of EU SME Week will be holding their networking meeting on 6 May 2009 in Glasgow at the STUC from 1830-2200. The subject of the meeting will be cooperatives as a business model for those who are interested in starting up a business but not sure what or who want to know more about cooperatives and how they work or who want to start something but not on their own and also all who wish to just plain network with other businesses. Glen Dott of Co:operative Development will speak about “Alternative Innovative Durable Successful Democratic Business Models”.
This meeting is open to members and non members and is free to attend – registration is required at www.scotlandinbusiness.co.uk
The campaign events, organised by national, regional and local SME organisations, promote entrepreneurship and offer support and networking opportunities for SMEs. The events include everything from company open days and funding tips to innovation, taxation and internationalisation conferences. The events will show European entrepreneurs how to benefit from the open market more efficiently and to boost business.
The 23 million existing SMEs are key employers in Europe. To keep this trend going and to boost Europe’s competitiveness, the European Union invests in SMEs in different ways. SME Week is also a forum to promote the EU’s Small Business Act, which is tailored to cut down the costs of doing business and to make starting up easier. It also aims at giving small businesses a helping hand with current issues, such as the economic situation and the climate change.
