Since the first car rolled out on the streets of Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1898,the Automobile Industry of India has come a long way. During its early stages the auto industry was overlooked by the then Government and the policies were also not favorable. The liberalization policy and various tax relief’s by the Govt. of India in recent years has made remarkable impacts on Indian Automobile Industry. The passenger car and the motorcycle segment is set to grow by 8% to 9% in coming couple of years, says the ICRA report. The industry is likely to maintain the growth momentum picked up in 2002-03. According to estimation the compound annual growth rate of Indian Automobile sales will grow at 9.5% and will touch a mark of 13,008 million by 2010. The figure for FY05 was 8.45 million units.Indian auto majors are supported by a large number of small units, which produce and supply various components to the auto majors.
