Conflicts of Interests - Congressman Jerry Lewis

In what world is it fair for someone who has a financial interest in the outcome of a negotiation to serve as the representative of the opposing side ?

Some of you may be aware that they are planning on expanding the 29 Palms Marine Corp base into surrounding communities and wildlife preserves. People will be displaced; property values decimated, and endangered species eradicated. The representative of the people’s interests in matters like this (eminent domain) is our Congress Person. Unfortunately for us that is Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-Ca.). As the ranking member of the House Appropriation Committee, Congressman Lewis had to approve the money for his constituents to be evicted from their homes, via eminent domain. Congressman Lewis’ financial records verify that he has received millions from a wide array of defense contractors (like General Atomics, Lockheed and SAIC), the only people who will profit financially from the base take over. Congressman Lewis’ voting record confirms his stance of supporting his contributor’s interests over the interests of his constituents. A person of conscience would remove themselves from all related proceedings, due to conflicts of interests. But, as shown by U.S. Attorney Carol Lam’s investigations into Congressman Lewis, conscience is not a factor. Instead, Congressman Lewis ignores the plight of his constituents, and even refuses to respond to any communiqués from them, regarding this issue. Hopefully the Obama administration will appoint non-partisan U.S. Attorneys that will put an end to this systemic corruption.
