Jack The Ripper Rears His Head Again

British Author Brian Porter has taken Jack the Ripper to a new level.

Award-winning author Brian L Porter confesses to a life-long interest in the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888, an interest which has culminated in the novel ‘A Study in Red’ – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper’. He is also the author of the thrillers ‘The Nemesis Cell’, ‘Pestilence’, Glastonbury’, ‘Purple Death’ and ‘Avenue of the Dead’, all scheduled for release in the next twelve months, and is already working on a sequel to ‘A Study in Red’. He is a member of The American Authors Association, The Military Writers Society of America, and The Whitechapel Society 1888. He is also the author of a number of children’s books under a pseudonym. Murder ‘Orrible Murder (A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper, Brian L Porter) A CK2S Kwips & Kritiques Recommended read Winner of ‘The Authors Lounge Best Cover Illustration Award, May 2008’ So went the cry on street corners of nineteenth century London as Jack the Ripper stalked the streets in search of his victims. It was the year 1888 and in what became known as ‘The Autumn of Terror’ a series of killings took place in the East End of London, which shook not only the people of the capital of the greatest empire the modern world has known, but reached into the lives of the population of the whole country as the murderer prowled at will through the dark, crime-ridden streets of Whitechapel, where he murdered and mutilated his victims, seemingly at will. The police appeared helpless in their search for this brazen and sadistic killer who history has recorder forever under the name by which he soon became known, Jack the Ripper! Over a hundred years later psychiatrist Robert Cavendish is bequeathed a strange set of papers which purport to be the journal of the long-dead infamous Whitechapel Murderer whose crimes gripped the hearts and minds and instilled terror on the streets of Victorian London. As he begins to read the journal, Robert becomes convinced of its authenticity and finds that the words of the Ripper have a strange and compelling effect on him. Unable to cast the pages aside he finds himself being drawn into the dark and sinister world of the killer until he is unable to distinguish what is fact and what is fantasy. In short, Robert Cavendish begins to feel as though he is being taken over in some way by the soul of the long-dead Ripper. What happens as he progresses through the journal will disturb and shock the reader as the close dividing line between sanity and madness is explored to the full. Excerpts from some of the reviews “The identity of Jack the Ripper has been explored, but never in such a deliciously nail biting manner. Although fiction, the possibilities of who Jack really was and where he came from as well as his unfortunate victims felt all too real thanks to the obvious hard work of the author to create this sensational tale.” Terri Dukes, CK2S Kwips & Kritiques “A Study in Red is seductive; it pulls you in, it draws you closer, it whispers in your ear. You cannot leave it, you cannot put it down – not until the very end – and by then it is far too late; it has you, mind, body and soul.” --Graeme S. Houston, Publisher: Balderdash International Literary Journal. `A Study in Red' (The Secret Journal of Jack The Ripper) by Brian Porter ranks high at the top of the charts as a phenomenal work of horror and intrigue. Although set as fiction his depiction of the Ripper murders reads all too real. The author transports his reader back in time to 18th century London. Through his articulate choice of words, you will feel the cobblestone beneath your feet, see the deprivation, and smell the stench that engulfed the streets of Whitechapel at that time. Barbara Watkins, Author, Thorns of an Innocent Soul For a work of fiction, A Study in Red left me wondering how anything of fiction could seem so real.
