Veteran actress Angelica Torn joins Sissy and talks about her career on stage with August Osage County and her film directorial debut Lucky Days this Friday night LIVE 7:30pm EST MNN Channel 56 TWC or LIVE on www.thesissygamacheshow.com

Nearly unrecognizable in her roles, Angelica Torn has made a name for herself by pushing the boundaries on stage and screen. Residing in New York, Los Angeles and London, the actress continues to balance her contribution to theatre, film and television in that order. The daughter of actors Rip Torn and the late Geraldine Page, Ms Torn was born with acting in her blood. Her reputation for inexhaustible range and subtle complex character work reflects itself in all her portrayals. Her highly acclaimed award winning solo play "Edge", developed at the legendary Actors Studio in New York garnered her an Outer Critics Circle Nomination (Best Solo Performance 2003) and has had critically acclaimed runs in New Zealand, Australia, Texas, Miami (New Times Award Best Actress 2005) and Los Angeles after selling out its triumphant London run. She received The Helen Hayes Award (Best Actress 2000), for assuming the lead role in the Tony Award winning "Sideman" for the Kennedy Center run after being honored for with the New York People's Choice Award in the Best Supporting Actress category (1999) for the role of Patsy which she originated for the same production. Torn most recently was nominated for her second Helen Hayes Award (Best Actress 2010) for her critically praised portrayal of Ivy Weston in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning "August: Osage County" (Broadway National Tour). Her performance was hailed as "Revelatory" by the Chicago Tribune when landing in the Steppenwolf production's home turf.

In television Ms. Torn has made her mark by playing sympathetic tragic figures with seemingly effortless ease as in her role as Julia Brinn in "Law and Order Special Victim Unit"(2005). Her final confession was filmed in one take. Films Torn has appeared in have unceasingly stretched her character work as well as her leading lady capacity. Her first film appearance was in Robert Benton's "Nobody's Fool" (1994) opposite Paul Newman in her cameo as Ruby. Leads, supporting leads and cameos followed as she balanced her dedication to her stage craft with screen work. "The Sixth Sense" was one of the most notable cameos with a screen time of only two minutes her performance as the emotionally barren Mrs. Collins has captured the imagination of a generation. Supporting roles include the Polish stuttering prostitute Vitka in Amos Kolleck's "Fast Food Fast Women"(2000), the fame hungry waitress Dierdre in the Oscar Nominated "The Contender"(2000), smoldering grifter Patty opposite John Travolta in "Domestic Disturbance"(2001) and the lust filled youth hunting Roberta in Michael Imperioli's "The Hungry Ghosts"(2009). "The Mouse"(1996)opposite John Savage and the soon to be release "Mint Julep"(2010) (also starring David Morse and James Gandolfini) and upcoming "Lucky Days"(2010) have placed Torn firmly in the front of the line as this generation's next great leading lady of film. From mousy housewife to mercurial manipulator to love torn virgin these films illuminate her unfathomable versatility and bottomless capacity for emotional depth. "Lucky Days" marks Torn's first film produced my her film company Torn Page Productions. She wrote, co directed and stars in this award winning debut. Ms. Torn has written two new pilots for cable and is in development with six new films and three plays to be produced over the next four years. She is a lifetime member of the Actors Studio and serves on their board of directors. She is actively involved with the charities PAVE and Opening Act and is developing the Torn Page Foundation for the Arts to foster emerging artists.

In the spring of 2007, Ms Torn along with her father established The Torn Page Salon, a longtime dream of her parents to create an environment where writers can workshop new material with an audience and professional actors that is free from artistic compromise due to financial constraints or commercial pressure.

Many plays that have appeared at the torn page salon are examples of storytelling in the purest form and writers and actors alike regard the torn page salon as an invaluable resource for our community. It also serves as a source of training in acting for professional and experienced actors working to maintain the strength of their craft through scene work.
