East Point, Georgia, September 21, 2010 — Since 2002 Broadway Bound Production’s musical “Sonny’s Place” has performed over 200 times in select performances at casinos, supper club theaters, and performing art centers all over the country. On Friday, September 24th, they’ll perform to raise funds for the H.J.C. Bowden Senior Recreation Center in East Point, GA. This original nostalgic production is a showcase of artists who look like and portray an assortment of some of the greatest jazz, swing, and blues legends of all time.
Talent performing in this production portray legends such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Satchmo Louie Armstrong, Jackie Moms Mabley, Dorothy Dandridge, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Duke Ellington and more!
In addition to showcasing the legends, “Sonny’s Place” brings back swing dancers, costumes, and comedy made famous in old school venues during the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, such as The Ritz, The Savoy and The Cotton Club! The production includes a score of original retro sounding songs created for the production by the song writing team of Vincent E. Kee and Nicholas Brown. Recently joining the production team as associate music directors is Atlanta’s Adi-Gun Hotep (portraying the legendary Duke Ellington) and Ron Atwater (portraying the legendary saxophonist Lester Young).
Local businesses are encouraged to participate in this worthwhile venture. For an additional $25 (a total of $50), businesses may purchase a table to promote their goods and services to help raise funds for the center.
After performing this fundraising production, Sonny's Place is scheduled to initiate a national and international tour leading to initiating a run off Broadway NYC in 2011. Proceeds for the event are forwarded to The Friends of Bowden Senior Center [a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization].
