A spokesperson for Steve Strange has today refuted claims made by German promoters ITLamg that the godfather of the New Romantic movement was due to headline a club event in Hamburg on Sat 11th 2010 but cancelled because he missed a plane.
In a statement released to the press, Mr. Strange says ‘My booking agent never received a signed contract for this show from the promoters, pure and simple. I sincerely apologise to any fans who bought a ticket for this event on the pretence of me performing, but despite numerous requests, the organisers did not fulfil their contract obligations. I am extremely disappointed that promoters still sell events on the back of artists' names like this. Rest assured any European shows that I do perform will be handled by reputable promoters'.
Steve’s booking agent, Mike Leigh, added ‘We did try and warn the venue that they were putting on an event where the headliner was not actually contracted to attend. It’s such a shame that fans buy tickets for these kind of events and are ripped off by local promoters who promise big names that they haven’t actually booked or paid to attend. My advice to music fans is to always check in advance with an artist’s management company before buying tickets for a club date like this. It can sometimes save you a lot of time and effort'.
