FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. Into its third year in the region, FedEx is supporting activities that will enhance the environment.
Over 900 FedEx volunteers in 12 Asia markets including Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam will take part in 34 community activities in 28 cities. During the week, the volunteers will commit to a range of community activities, from coastal clean up activities, bush regeneration programs, waste recycling to environmental education for school children.
In the Philippines, FedEx volunteers educated over 100 children and their parents in Gawad Kalinga Multinational Village in Parañaque City on the importance of protecting the environment through the “FedEx Eco Express” program.
FedEx volunteers facilitated an engaging storytelling and cleanup sessions to show the children and community members the value of waste segregation, recycling and collaboration to achieve an environmentally sustainable community. This was followed by an art activity using recyclable materials collected during the cleanup.
A FedEx truck also delivered 100 flowering plants for the children in GK Multinational to take care of and to teach them to be environmentally responsible.
At the end of the activity, each FedEx volunteer imprinted a “Purple Mark” to signify their commitment to helping communities like GK Multinational to become more environmentally sustainable. Children and other members of the village were also invited to leave their marks to demonstrate their commitment to collaborating with FedEx in this endeavor.
“FedEx is an advocate of giving back to our local communities through action. I am proud of our volunteers who have demonstrated how to connect the world in a responsible and resourceful manner through volunteerism, and by doing their bit to enhancing the environment in the communities,” said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific.
First launched in the U.S. in 2005, FedEx Cares Week will be celebrated on September 17 – 25 in the U.S., Europe, and the Latin America/ Caribbean region.
