Tim Meadows: Comedian and Family Man

Comedian Tim Meadows talks about his change to a family sitcom with TheCelebrityCafe.com.

Tim Meadows, the well-known former cast member of "Saturday Night Live," has switched from live scripted comedy to a role on a family sitcom. In a recent interview with, TheCelebrityCafe.com, Meadows spoke about his new character on, "The Bill Engvall Show." "My character's name is Paul and he's a hair replacement specialist," Meadows said. "He's divorced and looking to have a love life, but he's sort of desperate and he's not really that great being smooth." Meadows has been seen on many different television shows such as, "The Office," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Everybody Hates Chris." His new role was a challenge, especially since before signing-on he had yet to be introduced to the star and idea behind the show, Bill Engvall.   While Meadows and Engvall come from different places in life, the two seem to share a common bond.   "He can quote jokes from Richard Pryor and we are both just fans of comedy. So that's the one thing, and then from there we have a lot of other things in common, as far as being in the same business and being fathers and doing stand-up or whatever it is," Meadows explained. Since Meadows is a family man himself, being on a show that primarily deals with family issues seems to be quite simple. He credits the writers with being able to adjust raunchier comedy to something that is family-friendly and able to be seen by different kinds of audiences without being offensive. "I really have a lot of respect for comedy writers who, when writing comedy, have to cater to middle-America and a wider audience. You can't really go for cheap jokes or dirty jokes; you have to really make the humor come more from the relationships. It's been really different." Meadows has many more scenes on the show's third season, which premiers on TBS on July 18. Tim Meadows's interview can be viewed at TheCelebrityCafe.com.
