WESTFIELD LONDON, the 150,000-square foot shopping centre currently in development in the capital's White City, has secured its first luxury resident: Louis Vuitton. The designer brand will open a 3,000-square-foot store in The Village - the exclusive retail space dedicated to the most prestigious labels - which is being created in conjunction with US architect Michael Gabellini. The move marks the first occasion of Louis Vuitton trading within a shopping centre in the UK, although the house has a working business relationship with Westfield thanks to four stores it operates within outlets in the US. "Westfield is delighted that Louis Vuitton will be part of The Village," says a spokesman for the company. "We are also well advanced in our negotiations with a large cross section of like-minded operators." As well hosting a huge range of luxury brands, The Village will include a gym, spa, restaurants, bars and patisseries, as well as personal shopping services and valet parking, when the Westfield London complex opens in time for Christmas 2008. Dubai Or Not To Buy
25 September 2008, 10:00AM
A SPOKESPERSON for Prada SpA has put paid to speculation that it is on the verge of selling a minority stake to Dubai-based investment group Istithmar World PJSC - which also owns US department store chain Barneys - following a report by Bloomberg that linked talks between the two parties to an acquisition deal.
Prada announced last year that it would go public and, while a date for the IPO has yet to be set, that's apparently still very much the plan. Just last week, chairman and chief executive officer Patrizio Bertelli said: "Prada is ready for the listing, but naturally not until the financial markets return to normal."
"There's no plan B. Our objective remains the listing," a Prada representative reiterates in today's WWD. "These were preliminary talks with Istithmar regarding a possible midterm [retail] partnership in the Middle East and did not include entering Prada's capital."

Shulman's Eye
24 September 2008, 03:53PM
BRITISH Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman is one of the most respected fashion insiders on the planet and it's VOGUE.COM editor Dolly Jones that she is sharing her expert views with, on VogueTV, after all the major shows in Milan this week.
"It was like an underwear fest in a way," she laughs post-Prada. "There were a mixture of ideas in there and right now, I couldn't tell you exactly what it was that she was thinking. You need to go away and spend some time quietly thinking about it before you can decipher what she was ultimately trying to say."
Having seen "sumptuous" golds at both Prada and Bottega Veneta, Shulman tips the hue as one to watch out for on the rails come spring, while bows, as championed at Fendi handbags, are another trend of note - albeit one she will be giving a wider berth.
"Personally, I won't be wearing them. I can't stand them," she admits. "But I think they are a big story at the moment - and they do look great on the right person."

Champ vs. Doggone
THE DEBATE'S WINNERS: PALIN AND BIDEN. ITS LOSER: MCCAIN.
The puzzle of the vice-presidential debate looked as if it was going to be relatively easy. We knew the words we would use to describe it—embarrassing, gaffe, and twaddle. All that was left was to figure out which candidate to fix them to. Either Joe Biden would fulfill his role as the man known for producing word clouds before that became an Replica LV Handbagsor Sarah Palin would produce one of those fearless answers that proved the topic she was certain about was one with which she had only passing familiarity.
It turned out to be harder than that to score. Those words will sit unused. People watching for a car crash were disappointed. Palin did well, and so did Biden. He was the winner by my standard—he knew his brief, he kept himself in check, and he was commanding. The CNN and CBS post-debate polls called it for Biden. The Fox Replica Chanel Bags (not an exact comparison) called it for Palin.
But regardless of who won or lost, a vice-presidential debate doesn't matter unless it produces a major gaffe. This one didn't. So, people will vote on the person at the top of the ticket, and by that criterion, even if you think Palin won the debate, it's hard to see how she changed the race much. That's not great news for John McCain. Both national and state polls are going in the wrong direction for him.
