The management of one of the best known hotels in the West of Ireland, the Sandhouse Hotel in Donegal, has secured the hotel’s future today with the signing of a management contract to run the hotel. Paul Diver and his team, who have been key executives in the Sandhouse for a number of years, will take over the running of the Rossnowlagh property from the liquidator Kieran Wallace of KPMG. This move will secure employment for up to 50 staff and ensure the hotel will continue as one of the top hotels in the Northwest for the foreseeable future. In a new investment, the Sandhouse has just this week opened the ‘Glass Room Restaurant’ overlooking the Atlantic.
Kieran Wallace said he was delighted with the development and sees great potential for the hotel going forward. Its superb location overlooking Donegal Bay makes it one of the most scenic settings in Ireland. ‘I am very encouraged by the support of its existing loyal customers and by the professionalism of its staff, which gives Paul a great base to build on. We believe that Paul and his team offer by far the best prospect of maximising the potential of the Hotel and have confidence in their ability to make a success of it.’ he said.
Paul Diver said that it is his aim to keep the Sandhouse as one of the leading hotels in the North West by retaining its reputation for quality and high standards. His key objective is to attract new business to the Hotel and he sees the exclusive wedding business as key to this growth. ‘We have a tradition of wedding parties taking over the entire hotel for a weekend and using it as an exclusive oceanside venue for their wedding. There is definitely room for growth in this area.’ he added.
In the past the Sandhouse was associated more with international tourism than local business. This will change with the opening of the new Glass Room Restaurant last weekend perched on the edge of the wild Atlantic Ocean overlooking Rossnowlagh Beach. The spectacular views from Sligo’s Ben Bulben across Donegal Bay to Slieve League and the Bluestacks is replicated in the view from the Hotel’s 45 ocean view luxury bedrooms and suites.
Rossnowlagh has a wealth of natural amenities including watersports, particularly surfing, beach walks which go for miles and miles, together with top class game and coarse fishing. The management team will be developing a year round calendar of activity and cultural breaks. Donegal’s music and cultural heritage will be to the forefront as they are merged with activity holidays and promoted both locally and nationally.
The Sandhouse was originally built in the early 1950s as a fishing lodge and, with continual investment over the past number of years, has developed into one of the leading hotels in the North West.
