THE GELATO MAKER, a gelato confectionery shop opened in mid-April 2009 by Yaron Cohen, has already stirred up quite a buzz in the Scottsdale, AZ area. What is Gelato? According to Wikepedia, Gelato “is the Italian regional variant of ice cream. As such, gelato is made with some of the same ingredients as most ice-creams around the world; milk (and cream), sugar (and other sweeteners), flavorings (fruits, nuts, essences, etc.) and air are the main ingredients”. At The Gelato Maker, all of the gelato and sorbet flavors are made with pure, natural ingredients using no additives or preservatives. Additionally, gelato and sorbet is typically lower in fat content than traditional ice cream – traditional ice cream has 14% fat, while gelato has only 3%-8% fat and sorbet has 0% fat (!) – an added bonus for the calorie-conscious!
