Washington, D.C-(October 26, 2010). – Vice President of the European Parliament Gianni Pittella was in Washington, DC for a lecture on strategic international communications at the George Washington University and a meeting at the recently inaugurated Washington, DC European Parliament Liaison Office.  He took some time off from his busy schedule, to meet with Young Italian Professionals at John Hopkins SAIS University.
The Association “Italians in DC,” known as IDC, organized the meeting inviting members from its association to attend. Mr. Pittella agreed to the meeting because of the potential IDC members can have living in the U.S. He emphasized the importance of having Europe and the U.S. find concrete solutions to issues like climate change, international security, global commerce, and the management of energy resources.
“We should reevaluate the opportunity to transform the ‘transatlantic legislative dialog’ into a proper transatlantic assembly, which serves as an instrument of parliamentary dialogue. It’s about coordinating activities between European Parliament and Congress, which have the scope of common interest,” said Vice President of the European Parliament Gianni Pittella.
Italians in DC will continue to hold more discussions like these. Italians living in the U.S. need to become advocates to building a stronger relationship between the U.S. and Europe. For more information on Italians in DC please visit the Web site www.italiansindc.com
