San Antonio, TX – Carlos O. Hernandez, MD, FACP, has been named President of WellMed Medical Group – the largest senior healthcare provider in the Greater San Antonio area.
Dr. Hernandez has been a physician leader at WellMed since 2001, serving as Chief of Medical Affairs, Medical Director and Lead Physician, among other roles. In his role as president, he will handle administrative and supervisory duties regarding more than 80 healthcare providers serving patients at more than 30 healthcare clinics specializing in senior healthcare in South and Central Texas and the Treasure Coast of Florida. WellMed’s patient roster includes 1 in 5 Medicare-eligible seniors in the San Antonio area
Dr. Hernandez earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Hernandez is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He is a Fellow with the American College of Physicians, the largest society of internists in the world.
Despite his managerial duties, Dr. Hernandez remains active as a practicing physician, seeing patients out of the WellMed at Northwest 410 clinic.
Dr. Hernandez, a native of Laredo, is married to Tammie. He enjoys an active lifestyle that includes baseball, exercise, reading and spending time with his family.
