Houston Medical Forum Presents 19th Annual Scholarship Brunch

The Houston Medical Forum (HMF) will host its 19th Annual Holiday Scholarship Brunch on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Houston Post Oak Hilton at 11:00 a.m. The brunch is the largest fundraiser for the forum and enables deserving medical students to receive scholarships in the local Houston community. KPRC Local 2 News Anchor Rachel McNeill will serve as mistress of ceremonies. "The annual holiday scholarship brunch enables members of the Houston community to help the Houston Medical Forum fulfill one of its key missions; to cultivate and support local medical students, “says brunch co-chair Nicole Hadnott. “The rising cost of education, combined with the increasing need for underrepresented physicians, make it all the more imperative that the HMF provide scholarships and financial assistance to local medical students as they strive to achieve their goals of becoming physicians." The Houston Medical Forum, a 501 (3) (c) organization, was founded in 1958 and is affiliated with the National Medical Association and a branch of the Lone Star Medical Association. The Forum strives to promote the art of science and medicine; the betterment of the practice of medicine among its members; the stimulation of a civic and cultural element in the community and the fostering of social fellowship among the members. Its membership is predominantly African American physicians and surgeons as well as  residents and medical students. “With the national health care changes today, the medical profession needs to continue to attract top candidates who will provide quality care to the African American community, and our city overall,” adds co-chair Dr. Jakeen Johnson.   Sponsorships are available and tickets may be purchased online at www.hmfonline.org.
