Newport Beach, CA: Humans won’t be alone in celebrating their German ancestry this October.  On Sunday, October 18, more than 100 German Shepherd dogs accompanied by their well-behaved owners on leashes, will unite in Huntington Beach Central Park to celebrate their collective good fortune.  The dogs share a common bond:  They have all been rescued from the brink of Death, then rehabilitated and re-homed by local rescue group German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC).  Appropriately dubbed “GSROC-toberfest”, as a nod to the group’s acronym, the reunion event will draw dogs from Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, with more than 100 dogs expected to attend.   In addition to vendor booths, pet portrait sittings, health conscious dog treats, and raffle prizes, a two-hour training instruction customized specifically to the German Shepherd breed will be conducted by Vladae Roytapel, the legendary “Russian Dog Wizard”, renowned for his fluency in the “doglish” language. Vladae will provide attendees with unique insight into the shepherd character to allow them to better understand their dogs, maximize their training efforts, and get the most out of their relationship with their canine companions.  Coupling good information with good humor in his training approach, Vladae has helped thousands of dog owners throughout the world achieve success.  He has been featured on CNN, NBC, ABC, and Fox News, as well as in hundreds of local and national publications. Contests including “Tallest Ears”, “Longest Tail”, “Longest Snout”, and “Best German Shepherd Wannabe” are sure to inspire friendly competition among proud adoptive parents.  The event runs from Noon until 4:00 PM and advanced reservations are required. According to GSROC-toberfest Spokesperson Mary Franz, the all-volunteer non-profit group expects to rescue and re-home more than 400 dogs this year alone.  “There’s no question that the California economy has increased the number of dogs that need our help”, says Franz.  “We are being asked to assist individuals and families who never thought that they would have to give up their beloved dogs, and we are mindful of the trust that these families place in us.”   Franz cites recent rescues including a shepherd tied to a Stop sign; two shepherds abandoned at a storage facility; and countless dogs left behind in back yards when their owners moved away.  In addition to being an educational event, GSROC-toberfest aims to raise precious  resources to allow the charity to assist more dogs in crisis.
