Flights to Accra from New York by Delta Airlines are under fire over poor services

The Minister of Transport, Mike Hammah has queried the management of Delta Airline in Ghana over what he described as its poor services to passengers who travel on flights to Accra from New York.

The Minister tasked the management of the Airline to immediately improve its services on the route and to report back to him.President John Evans Atta Mills complained personally to the Minister following what is said to be a catalogue of complaints that he received from the traveling public. Hon. Mike Hammah followed up the formal complaints with a visit to the offices of the Airline on Wednesday, where he met with the Country Manager.A letter, which was dated August 19, 2009 and addressed to the Vice President of Delta Airline in charge of sales in London and copied to the Country Manager, expressed the dissatisfaction of various stakeholders with the services of the Airline. Among other problems stated was the state of aircraft being used on the said route, the handling of passengers, especially in the U.S and the in-flight services which the company provides to its passengers.Last week, passengers of the Airline were disappointed with the cancellation of their scheduled flight from Accra to New York which was due to mechanical faults. Passengers have also been complaining about the frequent cancellations of their flights in Ghana and the US, particularly flights at the JFK Airport in New York.In one situation, passengers were stranded at the JFK airport, but they were not given any tangible explanations by officials of the Airline.Alleged baggage tampering and stealing has also been on the increase.
