ST. LOUIS – On Jan.13, 2009, Dot Foods Inc. offered 1,100 employees the chance to win nearly $100,000 in prizes to celebrate reaching a 2008 safety goal of no OSHA recordable accidents. Seven distribution centers held individual drawings for ATVs, while the drawing for the grand prize was held at the Williamsport, Md., distribution center. The prizes included 15 ATVs and the grand prize was the choice of a pick-up truck, motor boat, car or trailer. Willie Glasper, a five-year veteran employee in Vidalia, Ga., won the grand prize in the national drawing held in Maryland, selecting a pick-up truck, as well as an ATV in the Georgia drawing.
The drawing is part of an ongoing Safety Incentive Program that rewards employees for maintaining safe work habits throughout the year. Each employee received one ticket for 2008 and an additional ticket for each year the employee had worked without an OSHA recordable injury.
Every distribution center had individual employee drawings for one Honda two-wheel ATV, valued at $4,000. The grand prize drawing had different criteria for eligibility, based upon companywide performance as well as the safety performance of each distribution center.
“We instituted the Safety Incentive Program to motivate and inform employees and it’s been very successful,” said Don Pierce, the safety manager at Dot Foods, Inc. “We plan to make the drawing bigger and better next year.”
Dot Foods continues to heavily engage in safety initiatives and programs that award employee responsibility and safety. Employees nationwide repeatedly break records when it comes to safety in the workplace.
“Safety is the most important thing that we promote at Dot Foods, and we love that our employees support us in our
endeavor to be injury free,” said John Tracy, CEO of Dot Foods. “And their support allows us to reward them for working safe.”
