Hametownshoppes Now Carrying USA Made Product Lines

It was now Hametownshoppes' job to step up to the plate and locate products that were made in the USA!

When my wife and I started Hametownshoppes, we were seeking low cost quality products for the customer’s home and business.

We wanted to offer products, which were competitively priced. As we sold our products, we offered promotions to encourage consumers to buy from Hametownshoppes and hopefully or just try products to keep returning to Hametownshoppes because of the product selection that we offered.

Our marketing approach, which was not recommend in all the do-it- yourself books on how to set up an on-line store front, was selecting products that we would be proud to own ourselves or give to our friends.

That approach of product selection was viewed to be too restrictive as we would miss out on other possible customers and our customer base would not grow.

And though it is not necessarily recommended, we are sticking with that marketing technique which has started to pay off as more and more customers are now shopping at Hametownshoppes.

We are not dropping any of our current product lines. The suppliers we have worked with have been great and all are physically located in the United States and Canada. If it had not been for our current suppliers, Hametownshoppes would not exist.

This Christmas season, my wife and I went to our regular shopping spot.  Now as we had been locating products to offer, we realized that almost 100% of the product line offered at this nationally known gift store was made in China or some other third world nation.  Not knocking Chinese made products, as some of the products were visually appealing to the eye, we were both just disappointed that this national retail store’s entire line most certainly came overseas.

That same day, we went to another local Akron, Ohio store.  The store we visited is noted for presenting works by American and local craftsmen.  I found two figurines, asked the store clerk where they were made, and she sheepishly said, “Designed in the United States, but manufactured in China.”  What a tragedy! It is almost like they sold out to foreign competition!

At Hametownshoppes Visit http://www.hametownshoppes.net for details we always wanted to carry American made products, but they were hard to find. (And quite candidly, some American manufacturers have all but made it impossible to offer their product lines!)

However, after our shopping excursions we made a real commitment to locate as many products that were Made in the USA.

To our surprise the trend for purchasing products stamped made in the USA are growing and hopefully the trend of merchants only offering products produced in China will start lessening.

This week alone we located 6 new Product Lines which are made in the USA and which will be unveiled in the next week or two!

The world is most definitely a global economy and I would be totally dishonest to say that we are not going to carry products that are “Asian Made.”   Some of the Asian made product lines are actually quite beautiful and our suppliers are Americans who have treated us quite well.

But it is now time for Hametownshoppes to actually diversify where the products come from!  There are so many far superior home décor products which are American Made and it just takes a bit of looking.

But why the emphasis on promoting American Made Products.   Well it is because:

 Americans are losing jobs due to the production of previously made American products overseas by multinational companies.  This movement of production to Asia and India is in effect deindustrializing the United States and many European countries.

 As companies moved their operations overseas, the United States began to lose its industrial base.

 The multinational corporations have no loyalties to the country of their origin.  Having their product lines manufactured in China, the multinational corporations are propping up the Republic of China’s autocratic regime.  Though outwardly somewhat capitalistic, the Republic of China restricts the rights of its citizens and has most definitely demonstrated a total disregard to the environment.

Is it not tragic, that today it is very difficult to find products stamped Made in the USA?  Unfortunately, some of the largest retailers have devoted themselves to locating low-cost items and consumers have unintentionally eliminated our own American workforce.

Americans should attempt to buy American made products. American merchants like Hametownshoppes and others like us need to select and promote quality products which are not only made in the United States and Canada but also produced under Fair Trade Laws which are fair wages to the farmers or artisans as well as produced to protect the environment.

However, it is the job of American retailers to locate products that are indeed quality products, which will cause the consumer to keep coming back.  No one will buy a product just because it is stamped Made in the USA if it is shoddy!

The concept that you are saving money by buying offshore products is not correct.

American jobs are being lost when you purchase a product made overseas and the subsequent lost income will eliminate the ability for Americans to buy any products at all.
