E.N.G., a leading B2B conference organiser in Europe will hold the 4th annual chemical summit on 17-19 February 2009 in Amsterdam. This premier event will focus on developing sustainable, value-added innovation and high growth markets to combat increasing competition, rising costs and uncertain economic growth. The summit will expand its remit for 2009 with speakers from China and Korea in addition to leading European and US chemical corporations.
Mark Cavallo, managing director at E.N.G. explains why this is the right time for chemical innovators to convene at this critical time. “Economic downturns can have positive effects for chemical companies. They motivate companies to increase their R&D efficiency, cut waste and strive to innovate in a smarter ways. Companies also need to explore new opportunities from the emerging markets such as China, Russia and India to discover potential ground-breaking technologies that could be commercialised and applied in matured markets.”
Dr George Chen, a professor in microbiology and biomaterials at the Tsinghua University in Beijing who will be speaking at the summit agrees. “R&D spending in China has increased substantially over the years. For instance, Chinese labs have developed grounded-breaking technologies such as thermo polyesters (PHA) produced through microorganisms. These bioplastic materials, made from renewable resources, could be applied in a variety of applications such as biodegradable packaging, fibers, latex, adhesives. PHA monomers can be pharmaceutical intermediates or even medicines. Our lab has also recently turned the PHA into a new type of biofuel that completely avoid the arguments of “Food vs. Fuel” and “Fuel vs. Land” issues.”
This meeting will include experts from top chemical companies: Air Products, Akzo Nobel, BASF, CEFIC, CIBA, Dow Chemical, DSM, Dupont de Nemours, Ecolab, Evonik and Samsung Total
Programme highlights for 2009 include:
> Driving growth in mature packaged gas market through value-based innovation
> Applying C2C principles into new product development in the chemical industry
> Best practices in accelerating the speed of R&D in changing market conditions
> Enhancing R&D processes through successful value-chain integration
> Fostering Eco-innovation that increases profits, not just social responsibility
> Managing the compliance of global chemical legislations effectively
