Atlanta Life Financial Group Board of Director Announces Nationwide Search For New President and Chief Executive Officer

Atlanta, GA – August 20, 2010  The Board of Directors of Atlanta Life Financial Group and its Chief Executive Officer, William A. Clement, CLU, have begun a nationwide search for a new President and Chief Executive Officer. Atlanta Life, now in its 105th year of business, is the only African American owned and privately held company in the country with a financial services platform that includes asset management, investment banking/brokerage and insurance.

“I look forward to working with the entire Board as we engage in this very important search for a new President & Chief Executive Officer,” said Mr. Clement. “Our focus is on finding the right candidate that will lead the organization through the next phase of its strategic plan.”

Mr. Clement assumed his role as President and CEO after the death of then President and CEO, Ronald D. Brown, in April 2007. Mr. Clement has also served on the Atlanta Life Financial Group Board since 1992, and was serving as Board Chair at the time of Mr. Brown’s passing. Mr. Clement will remain as President & Chief Executive Officer until the successful completion of the search, and will remain as a member of the Atlanta Life Financial Group Board of Directors.

The corporate vision for Atlanta Life Financial Group and its subsidiaries is to be a pre-eminent national financial services company; to become the minority-owned financial services firm of choice for any party for whom that affinity is important; and to be the premier provider of financial services to the African American and other minority communities.

“The current vision of Atlanta Life Financial Group that has been set forth by the Board of Directors is the only position befitting this prestigious, time-honored institution,” said Egbert L. J. Perry, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Accordingly, we are looking for a President and Chief Executive Officer who will help us to write the next chapter of growth and development of this institution, continuing our transformation into the far-reaching financial services company outlined in our corporate vision.”

The Company’s vision is manifest in its four subsidiaries: Herndon Capital Management,  an institutional investment management firm specializing in large capitalization equity strategies; Jackson Securities, a full service investment bank that provides investment banking and brokerage services to institutional and retail clients throughout the United States; Atlanta Life Insurance Company, provider of group life products to Fortune 500 companies; and the Atlanta Life General Agency, a subsidiary of Atlanta Life Insurance Company, a multi-line insurance broker that offers various lines of property & casualty insurance, including E&O and D&O business.

The Company is retaining the services of an executive search firm to assist in the search to find the successful candidate.

Earlier this week, Jackson Securities announced the appointment of W. Bruce Gow as President and interim Chief Executive Officer of Jackson Securities. Mr. Gow has previously held several positions in the firm, including Chief Product Officer, Managing Director, Public Finance and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Gow replaced Reuben McDaniel, who resigned to pursue other interests.
