We’re told that 87% of homebuyers use the Internet to search for homes.
Facebook has over 300 million “active” users and the fastest growing demographic is 35+ years old. According to the 2009 comScore statistics, 45 – 54 year olds are the oldest demographic on Twitter. In August 2009, Linked In, reached the 45 million mark.
These statistics are important because your new customers will more than likely come from referrals and often times those referrals originate from friendships that were established through social networks on the web. Small businesses are now able to promote their message into the marketplace for very little cost, which has virtually leveled the playing field for you with your big league competitors who have big league marketing budgets. Social networking also enables you to convert those new customers into loyal return customers.
Social influence marketing uses networking media such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube and other sites to communicate and influence. Conversations about brands, products and services are increasingly woven into the interactions of social networks as a means to connect with others, and these conversations have a great influence even though people aren’t consciously asking about brand opinions. Furthermore, consumers do not always realize how much influencing they are doing and how much they are being influenced when they have a conversation about brands across social platforms.
As a part of your Integrated eMarketing strategy, become familiar with Twitter, listen to what is being said on Twitter about your brand. When responding to Tweets, keep it real. Your messaging and branding should stay the same on twitter, emails and blogs but attitude and tone must be relevant to each medium, in the words of Marshall McLuhan, “the medium is the message”.
The goal of social network marketing is to create a campaign that is effective and consistent across all platforms and that all brand contacts be relevant to each customer and is used consistently over time.
