Our experience in this industry has shown us that when we enter a new market, we need to make sure that all elements of research and analysis have been covered. The newest addition to the Baidulinx web family will be Japanese. Our R&D on this application has had to take into account very similar issues that were dealt with in the beginning with our Chinese porthole. Although the two countries are very different, the difficulties faced with amalgamating the required data and textual fields is something we have been able to draw on our experience from to make sure that when the site is released, it is a fully functioning partner to our tried, tested and successful Baidulinx homepage.

Coming into 2010, the number of internet users had increased from 47mn in 2000 to 99mn users in 2010. What’s more astounding is that with a population decrease in the same period of time, the percentage penetration increased to an astonishing 78% from 37%. Over 3 out of 4 people have and do access the internet!
With the sheer numbers alone Japan is a country that Baidulinx simply cannot ignore. As with our Chinese version, the ability to search not only in Japanese text and/or the relevant English text/ translation is vital to make the site more user friendly and for it to have user appeal. This alone is a technical minefield; however with the success of the Chinese version, we can glean several techniques and protocols that will expedite our entrance into this highly technological advanced nation of internet users.
The Japanese Government has promised to complete a program covering the whole of the country with broadband access by the end of 2011. What this means is that the entire population will have access to the internet through any medium they choose. Currently the country enjoys unparalleled mobile and broadband access and Baidulinx is extremely excited to have a presence in this ‘Net Savvy” country.
Our main emphasis when breaking into Japan is the content of our site. When working in a very technologically understanding nation, it is not how they access the internet that is our concern; it’s what they do whilst they are online that we need to understand! Having grown our business in a similar environment it has helped us cultivate our approach to our Japanese site, our Media partners have been selected at the initial stages to hand in hand promote our site along with their intended products.
Mobile Internet is a leading gateway to the Internet in Japan. Since 2007 all mobile phones have had GPRS capabilities and this has established a trend of users and their requirements. Baidulinx Inc. will be focusing more on social media, news feeds and mobile updates with our Japanese users; this will be more fitting for their demographic and will fill a niche that has yet to be satisfied properly.
We will not change our core profile; however we will adapt it to the users’ requirements, a vital ability in this environment. Japan is one market where we can excel in our technological ventures, showcase our business and develop our cutting edge strategies and therefore roll them out to our other sites once proven. It will be a very exciting arena for us to be in.
