The youngest Chairman ever appointed by the Maltese government will present the world’s first smart grid country at a time when Utilities across the world are investing at an unprecedented rate to ensure energy efficiency and reliability for the future.
Once the IBM joint project is completed, this will be a fully functioning smart grid with around 250,000 smart meters equipped with the ability to pass information between consumer and supplier in real time to monitor the Maltese power supply. Based on the level of supply and demand, the system will work to set the variable rate that consumers will pay. Smart meters will pave the way for real-time pricing, where energy is priced at different rates depending on the time of day and demand. Utilities can use real-time pricing to better manage the loads on the grid, while home owners can use it to cut their monthly energy bills.
Commenting on the keynote address, Patrick Ryder, Smart Utility Summit Director said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Tranter on board and look forward to working together in London. This project is truly a world first and provides a glimpse into the energy future for us all.”
The Smart Utility Summit takes place from the 8th-10th December in London and is run by IQPC. For more information, contact Elisa Ramella on +44 (0)207 368 9300 or visit www.smartutilityevent.com.
