NotreDameJewelry.com launched, distinctive heirloom quality jewelry inspired by Mexican missionaries

After years of offering only a very limited supply of special religious jewelry for distribution at high end fundraisers, an Austin husband and wife team has extended their jewelry offerings and launched http://www.notredamejewelry.com, a distinctive site that celebrates and repurposes the brilliant and colorful jewelry of Mexico as extraordinary rosaries, cross necklaces, matching earrings and watches. As long term residents of Austin, Texas, Larry and Mel Daniel, the founders of NotreDameJewelry.com, and their family have long performed missionary outreach activities in the colonias of Mexican communities along the Rio Grande border and with Mayan communities in Chiapas, the Mexican state neighboring Guatemala in the south.  Along the way, they realized how much they learned from the Catholic peoples of those areas, both from their faith and their culture.  Evident among these peoples are their great devotion to Christ, and the colorful and ornamental ways they exhibit their love. During a 2006 trip to Chiapas, Mel Daniel found the craftwork of Mayan women especially  inspiring and began trading ideas pertaining to the use of various textures and colors in rock, gem and crystal jewelry.  On return to the States that year, she fashioned her own rosaries and necklaces, and then found them in heavy demand around the family's Austin church community.  She began making full lines of rosaries, necklaces, watches and earrings, each of heirloom quality that reflected a variety of rich, yet spiritual colors. After Larry Daniel completed the sale of a marketing company in 2008, the husband and wife team decided to expand the jewelry business, while directing a portion of all proceeds to the communities of Nuevo Laredo and Chiapas. As of launch this February, the  NotreDameJewelry.com site includes approximately 20 different ornate items, in prices ranging from $19 on up.  As important to the founders, the site also offers commentary about their missionary trips, as well as about the gems and crystals used in their products, and about praying the rosary.
