Indie Artists Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther Kings Birthday

Dream On! is an international creative collaboration that is producing two tribute CDs, dedicated to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The music created by independent artists is in alignment with Dr. Kings ideals of peace and justice.

Los Angeles, CA — In less than two weeks, the world will celebrate two historic events within days of each other: the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama and the 80th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Many, including Dr. King’s son, Martin Luther King, III, have already commented on the connection between these two men. Certainly, Dr. King and the civil rights movement that he led forever changed the political and social landscape of this country. Furthermore, one might wonder whether the campaign message of Hope was inspired by his predecessor’s famous Dream. It is Dr. King’s dream of a peaceful and just society that treats all individuals equally that was the inspiration for the creative collaboration, Dream On!, and its musical tribute, which will launch amidst pre-inaugural excitement, reminding the world to take a moment and look back… not so very long ago… and pay tribute to a man, his dream, and the movement that he led. The participating artists hail from California to Zimbabwe, and their styles of music range from soulful rhythm and blues to heartfelt folk to upbeat Indie rock. The two-disc set is comprised of 30 tracks, which also will be available as MP3s for FREE download from the website (www.thedreamcontinued.org). That’s right – FREE. All of these award-winning artists (including LA’s Dry September, New York’s Aliza Hava, and Vancouver’s Bonnie Ste. Croix) have donated their music so that their interpretations of Dr. King’s message may continue to inspire countless others and will help raise money for charities that we believe Dr. King would have supported. Dream On! has partnered with Pathways To Peace, based in Oakland, CA, the REACH Complex, based in Atlanta, GA, and Pivot Legal Society, based in Vancouver, Canada. Collectively, these organizations have projects that reach locally, nationally, and internationally and address issues including peace and justice, human rights, and education – issues that Dr. King himself embraced. On January 15, join us in celebrating the man who, in the midst of division and fear chose the road of peaceful empowerment and love.
