Johannesburg, South Africa – South Africans contemplating a winter holiday in Europe will find that their holidays begin as soon as they step on to the aircraft when they travel with Qatar Airways. Flying from Johannesburg daily and from Cape Town four times a week to to Doha and from there onward to 16 of Europe’s most romantic winter cities including Paris, Moscow, Rome and Vienna, Qatar Airways recently announced a significant increase in the number of flights to key European capital cities as part of its aggressive expansion programme.  By improving flight frequencies, South African passengers are offered greater choice when planning their holiday and business travel. Recently ranked second in a global survey of the world’s best international airlines, Qatar Airways provides passengers with the highest quality service in the air and on the ground.  On board, the airline offers an array of gourmet menu options, up to 700 entertainment choices including top quality movies and audio selections, games and radio stations as well as four live news channels.  Travellers are hosted by a multi-award winning crew. South African travelers are commonly required to transit on their way to many points in Europe – there are currently no direct flights to Zurich, Geneva, Stockholm, Athens, Rome, Milan, Moscow, Vienna or Manchester.  While the transit may be considered an irritant, Doha is fast becoming the most popular travel hub in the world, with Qatar Airways flying to all the abovementioned cities and more.  An additional benefit to South Africans using Doha as a transit hub, is not needing transit visas, adding increased affordability and convenience to the already lengthy list of reasons to fly with Qatar Airways. With the world's first dedicated passenger terminal for First and Business Class passengers, built at a cost of almost R800 million at Doha International Airport, Qatar Airways’ Premium Terminal has become an industry leader.  The Premium Terminal offers dedicated First and Business Class check-in desks to the respective lounges, concierge meet and greet services for passengers prior to check-in, a spa, Jacuzzi and sauna for passengers to relax and unwind before their flight, massage treatment rooms, shower and wash rooms, conference and meeting venues, a 24-hour medical centre, duty free shopping area stocking leading international brands, to name but a few services on offer. Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the additional frequencies demonstrated the airline’s commitment to offer passengers greater choice. “We are constantly looking at ways to offer our passengers improved levels of service, more choice and more connections across our global network,” he said. “Europe is one of our most important regions representing around 20 per cent of our global coverage. With almost 40 per cent increase in frequency across four European capital cities from the start of the winter flying season in October, Qatar Airways is opening up greater opportunities to travel for business or leisure. Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of 69 aircraft to 82 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Far East and North America. The airline has outstanding orders for more than 220 aircraft worth over US$40 billion.
