Beach Haven, NJ Andrew Lloyd Webbers classic musical starring Karyn McNay

Andrew Lloyd Webbers one-woman tour de force in song tells the story of fierce young designer Emma, an ordinary English girl who journeys to New York City in search of love. Plays: September 23rd to October 4th 2009

By turns wry, sly, and very funny, dozens of Lloyd Webber’s best songs take us through Emma’s romantic misadventures as they lead her from Manhattan to Hollywood and back again, returning older and wiser.   Brimming with optimism, Emma sets out to seek success, companionship and, of course, love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether, in fact, she's been looking for love in all the wrong places. As the story of the loves of a contemporary British woman living in New York, you could  call it a cross between Bridget Jones's Diary and Sex and the City set to music! Tell Me on a Sunday is one of those Andrew Lloyd Webber works that keeps evolving over time. Originally produced as a record album starring English musical theatre star Marti Webb, "Tell Me On a Sunday" was combined with Lloyd Webber's "Variations" to form Song and Dance. The show, in a revised form, opened on Broadway in 1985 starring Bernadette Peters, who won a Tony Award for her performance. Betty Buckley succeeded Peters in the role on Broadway. Others who have sung the score, which includes such tunes as "Tell Me On a Sunday," "Unexpected Song," "Take That Look Off Your Face" and "Come Back with the Same Look in Your Eyes," include Lulu, Sarah Brightman, Liz Robertson, Gemma Craven and Alice Ripley, the latter at the Kennedy Center. Karyn Mcnay has been a Surflight favorite in many productions over the past few years.
