A Boy Grows Up is the story of 17-year-old Jack, who lives with his mother and learns the facts of life through his love-affair with an older woman. The story is set in contemporary South Africa.

Jack leapt up off his bed, decided that the clothes he had on would suffice, and crept out of the house, careful not to cause Mama to wake and ask difficult questions. There was no way he could explain his leaving the house after midnight by reasoning he was going out to do his schoolwork with a friend. What would Mama say then?
Jack reached Matilda’s house and, though his intention was clear in his mind, he stopped beside the fence. He tried to compose himself. His mind was racing mind and his pulse was pumping. He took in a deep breath, and exhaled, in an effort to relax himself… (story continues)

Thomas (Tom) Stanislaw Jasiukowicz is the direct descendant of Ignacy Jasiukowicz - the highly renowned Polish- Russian industrialist; and of Stanisław Jasiukowicz - Polish MP, Delegate for the Polish Government in Exile during World War II, and a co-accused in the Trial of the Sixteen held in Moscow by the USSR authorities in 1945. Ignacy Jasiukowicz established the Dneprovsky metallurgical enterprises and as well as the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk in the Ukraine during the 19th Century.
