Gay & Lesbian Wedding Expo Set for Chicago
The national gay & lesbian wedding resource, RainbowWeddingNetwork.com, has announced details about its upcoming LGBT Wedding & Family Expo in Illinois this spring. Following this year's earlier event in New York, The Same Love, Same Rights® Wedding Expo in Chicago will be the twenty-seventh such event produced by RainbowWeddingNetwork.com since the company began connecting same-sex couples with screened, gay-friendly businesses in 2000. The much-anticipated Expo is scheduled for Sunday April 26, 2009 from 12:30-3:30 pm at the distinctive Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, on the North side of the river, and is free for the public to attend.
Asheville, NC – The founders of RainbowWeddingNetwork.com proudly announce plans to produce their latest Gay & Lesbian Wedding Expo in Chicago, in celebration of recent legislative action in Illinois aimed to facilitate marriage equality. The Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act proposed by Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago), a bill currently under debate in the state House of Representatives, would “provide eligible same-sex and opposite-sex couples with the same treatment as those in a civil marriage.” (www.365gay.com) Rainbow Wedding Network's LGBT Wedding Expo is a timely resource for same-sex couples potentially impacted by the current debate, as well as all those who support equal rights in marriage.
The Same Love, Same Rights® LGBT Wedding Expo will be hosted by the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, from 12:30pm-3:30pm on Sunday, April 26, 2009. Over 50 gay-friendly businesses will be spotlighted, including those in wedding planning industries such as Event Coordinators, Officiants, Ceremony and Reception Venues, Cake Decorators, Musical Entertainment and Floral Designers. Also in attendance will be Travel Planners, Legal Professionals and Parenting Resources; all provide gay-friendly resources for married or engaged couples. Each exhibitor will be specifically selected for their support and encouragement of marriage equality.
“This is an important time for the LGBT minority in America,” states RainbowWeddingNetwork founder, Cindy Sproul. “Despite the heartbreak of Proposition 8 in California last November, the momentum toward equal marriage and family rights for gays and lesbians remains intact throughout our country. We believe the conversation about civil unions in Illinois marks one more historic step toward true respect and tolerance for all American families.”
The 2009 Chicago Same Love, Same Rights® Gay & Lesbian Wedding Expo will feature music, samples, planning tips & trends as well as interactive presentations focused on the issues surrounding equal rights in marriage. Guests of the Expo will receive a complimentary goodie bag brimming with valuable contacts for planning their own Special Day; attendees will also be invited to add a photograph to the Commitment Photo Album,™ an ongoing project to document LGBT couples and their families throughout the nation. All LGBT couples throughout the Chicago area are encouraged to attend, as well as advocates and allies interested in the issues of equal marriage & family rights. The event is free to the public.
Launched in 2000, RainbowWeddingNetwork.com (RWN) has grown to become the most extensive wedding resource for the gay and lesbian community in the United States. Following the success of its first LGBT Wedding Expo in Minneapolis in 2003, RWN has produced twenty-six such events in twelve states throughout the nation. In 2006, the company began publication of the first wedding magazine specifically dedicated to gay & lesbian weddings. An updated version of the main website, offering a high degree of social networking and other interactive features, was launched in November 2008.
