Dana Cupkova, Visiting Assistant Professor at Cornell University's Department of Architecture, has been awarded a 2008 Brunner Grant from the Foundation for Architecture in New York City.

Dana Cupkova, Visiting Assistant Professor at Cornell University's Department of Architecture, has been awarded a 2008 Brunner Grant from the Foundation for Architecture in New York City. The grant will allow Cupkova and collaborator Kevin Pratt to develop adaptive models for the reuse of Eastern European housing. Dana Cupkova received her Dipl.ING.ARCH. from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Design at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and her M.Arch II from the School of the Arts and Architecture at the University of California at Los Angeles. At UCLA she was awarded the Unrestricted University Fellowship, the Mimi Perloff Award, and the Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship for outstanding design work. In addition she has studied at the Akademie der Bildende Kunste in Vienna, Austria; the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia; and L'Institute D'Urbanisme in Grenoble, France. In 2001 Dana Cupkova founded the experimental design studio DCm-STUDIO. Projects include the Glantz's Residence, Brooklyn, New York, The Courtyard Bar, Long Island City, New York, Dark Blue - Clothing Store, Bratislava, Slovakia and the Sandra Gering Gallery, New York, New York. Dana Cupkova won the "New York Designs 2005: So what's the big idea?" award for the Sandra Gering Gallery. Her work is featured in Young European Architects, published by DAAB GmbH, Köln, Germany. Dana Cupkova's current research is focused on ecologically adaptive component construction systems and their cultural and socio-political effects. In her teaching she explores the effects of digital technology on design processes and fabrication methodologies. Recently, she founded the research and design collaborative EPIPHYTE Lab with Kevin Pratt to pursue this work.
