Actress Natasha Blasick has recently returned from a month in India shooting the title role in the feature film The Black Russian. Filming near the city of Shimla in the foothills of the Himalayas provided a dramatic backdrop for the lensing of the drama written and directed by Carlos Valle.
Although shot on location in India, The Black Russian is an english language film. "It's not a Bollywood movie." says Natasha Blasick. "It's a gritty drama revolving around a political kidnapping." Blasick's character, Fransesca, is a prostitute and the gatekeeper between the competing factions of the tense story. "Prostitute roles have been some of the greatest parts in movie history. It was a real challenge and pleasure to unravel all of Francesca's layers."
Also in the cast is Indian star, Yashpal Sharma, known for playing bad guys in many roles including the Acadamy Award nominated Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India. Says Blasick, "Yashpal is a great actor. We had a natural chemistry together, and it was probably my most enjoyable acting experience to date."
Blasick was able to take a break from shooting just long enough to visit the Taj Mahal and Mother Teresa's orphanage. "I really fell in love with the children," says the actress.
The Black Russian is currently in post production and slated for a 2012 release.
