Slumdog Millionaire in Tamil ? - looks like that was the attempt !

With most of the story happening in slums, you may ask yourself , is this Slumdog Millionaire in Tamil ? But no, this is a completely different movie by Vinayan. Though the backdrops are similar, the story is entirely different. The story goes somwhat like this : A huge amount of money is supposed to be distributed amongst the poor slum dwellers under the supervision of Mani (Manivannan), Ramu (Pradeep) and he collector Priya (Karthika). A couple of politicians Maha Ganapathy (Rajan) and Ramasamy (Thanikella) have other plans in mind ... which ofcourse is to loot all the money for themselves. A bit of ramance is thrown in to the film in the form of Sarwanand, the minister's son and a slum girl (Tanisha). Guess this is what the makers of Naalai Namathe had in mind when attempting this movie ! But alas, while Slumdog Millionaire had an excellent storyline and was a high quality movie, Naalai Namathe fails in many departments. The script is weak, dialogues not powerful enough, and even music is nothing worth humming about. Though Vinayan, who mainly has made Malayalam Movies is known for presenting good movies, he seem to have made Naalai Namathe half heartedly. The acting department has done a decent job in Naalai Namathe. Ashish Vidhyarthi who plays the rich man, has given an excellent performance as usual. The newcomer Pradeep too has done a decent job.
