Tea Area Business Receives Guinness World Record Certificate

360 Bar and Grill receives official notification for 2007 success just in time for 2008 attempts.

Tea, SD - November 2007 was a whirlwind month for the staff of Tea's Sports Page Bar and Grill. Owners Melissa and Tony Naatjes wanted to celebrate their second year as owners in a memorable way that would involve their entire community. "We don't just work in Tea, we live here as well. We wanted to be able to thank everyone for two great years, and have them share in our celebration." says Melissa Naatjes. Staff and patrons were asked to join the Naatjes in attempting to break several Guinness World Records. Many of the challenges also became fundraisers for the Tea Jaycees and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. "The records were all about helping Tea, South Dakota make it's mark in the world. Giving the funds to local groups, that's was about making a mark in our hometown. The best way we could thank our customers was by giving back to causes they believe in. The heart of a strong Midwestern community comes from supporting it's locally owned business', and it's our job as business owners to support our friends and neighbors any way we can." says Naatjes. At the end of their biggest challenge, singing karaoke non stop for 360 hours, the staff was exhausted, but shared a pride in the accomplishment. Former staffer Michelle Meinerts looks back on the two weeks of singing with fondness. "I know I personally sang every day of the challenge. It was the best way to keep it going and keep others involved. That last song, singing "We Are The Champions" was the very best moment. Just knowing we had done it." says Meinerts. Following the month long celebration the Sports Page turned a page, and was renamed "360 Bar and Grill". Naatjes felt their establishment had come full circle and it was time for a new name. Almost a year later, with the 360 now in the planning stages of new record attempts for their third anniversary, Naatjes was pleased to receive the official notice from the Guinness World Record committee. "When I opened the package in my office, the whole bar heard me scream with excitement! My hands were shaking. It's so wonderful to actually see the certificate and hold it in my hand after all the hard work everyone did. It's proof that we did it!" says Naatjes.
