2009 Youth Economic Literacy
Rap Lyrics Challenge

Rap Lyrics Contest was established for youth that have problems communicating, low self-esteem or are in need of artistic expression. Research has proven that an art enrichment curriculum, particularly music, helps youth desperate for self-expression with their communication skills that instill pride and confidence. Rap Lyrics Contest is intended to capture the mind of students while at the same time promoting less intimidating practices in the classroom.
2009 Contest Dates:
Contest will begin on January 19, 2009
Last day for submissions are July 5, 2009
Contest winners will be announced August 3, 2009
1st Place wins a $500 US Savings Bond
2ND Place wins a $250 US Savings Bond
3rd Place wins a $100 US Savings Bond
*All winners will also receive wooden plaques.
All contest entries must address one or more of the following economics issues in their lyrics:
1. All entries must discuss one are all of the following major Economic concerns in
America:
a. The Importance for maintaining good credit standings.
b. Impact of the home foreclosures in our neighborhood. What can we do to rectify this problem? Who is responsible for the foreclosure crisis in America?
What have you learned? Your experience?
c. The significance of saving and investing. Our current stock market condition and its impact on the economy.
d. Needs versus wants. Is hanging with the Joneses good or bad? Why or why not?
e. Financial Market and auto industry bailout. It is good or bad? Needed or not needed to help
stimulate the economy.
f. Will President Obama have a positive impact on the US rescission? Why or why not?
Mission Statement:
To assist and engage children of all ages in understanding the importance of strong credit and money management skills through musical self-expressions. With Sound Art, students awaken creativity, discover their talents and become skilled.
Our Vision for the Future:
Rap Literacy Lyrics Contest seeks to create a model for financial literacy education through rap lyrics that serves schools, after-school programs and community centers in undeserved urban neighborhoods.

- Your kids will be learning to:
- Feel better about themselves.
- Respect and understand life challenges.
- Learn core economic literacy principles to become better prepared for later life.
