Toronto – In its eighth year, Over The Top Festival - Canada's cutting edge arts festival celebrates theatre, art, music, and film in clubs, theatres and galleries across Toronto. The Festival’s film program returns with ten critically acclaimed powerhouse titles that have previously been selected for such prestigious festivals as Cannes, Sundance, and Berlinale. Eight of the ten films are Canadian premieres. From May 21st to 24th, Toronto audiences will screen a cross section of innovative and exciting world cinema.
Jeff Wright, Over The Top film programmer comments, “From vikings and exploding bodies all the way to virtual sex, we wanted to give even the most discerning film-goer a run for their money,” He adds, “It’s a chance to see some incredible films that you wouldn’t normally have access to.”

Vice Films brings us Jesco - ‘The Dancing Outlaw’ bounced in and out of reform schools and insane asylums as a child for excessive drugs use and wild behavior. In order to harbor his outlandish behavior, his father D-Ray taught him the art of Appalachian Mountain dancing. Jesco begins touring across the bar scene where he meets the love of his life, Cilla. We follow Jesco’s trials and tribulations as he paves his own war path.

D: Chad VanGaalen, Canada, 2 min and 12 min (2009) - World Premiere
Trying to summarize the latest animated shorts by Sub Pop recording artist, Chad VanGaalen is pointless, but expect a skateboarder jumping over a crucified Jesus’ massive erection in Ebay, and a sprawling abstract sci-fi story told with various types of animation (hand-drawn, stop motion, etc.) in Bald Static. Both films feature new music composed and performed by VanGaalen.
