The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is proud to host an evening of music and dance performance. Five musicians and six dancers have partnered together to celebrate Mississippi’s ever changing and evolving art scene as presented in “thislocation”. Front Porch Dance, a Jackson-based contemporary dance company, will present new choreography set to live music by musician/composer Jamie Weems on Saturday, February 5 at 7:00pm. The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation Auditorium is a natural host for unexpected moments in Mississippi’s creative culture. This event, which begins at 7pm, will feature a catered dinner alongside the performance. Don’t miss out on this unique collaborative gathering of dancers and musicians. The ticket prices are $30 for SCHF members and $35 for non-members. There will also be a cash bar available that night. Private/Corporate table reservations are available for $250. Tickets are available at the SCHF Business Office, Paper Plus or charge by phone by calling 601.631.2997.
The collective work of the musicians and choreographers has all been inspired by unforeseen moments that trap the essence of space in a person’s memory. Front Porch Dance and The Strange Pilgrims seek to dislocate their audience’s awareness, transplanting them through sound and movement to out-of-the-way locales as disparate as Paris is from Washington D.C. With each of these excursions, the audience will find themselves in an unexpected place which magically seems to be right where they were going. Whereas our fast-paced, strictly scheduled society has come to view the detour as a wrong turn prolonging the trip, Front Porch Dance and The Strange Pilgrims reframe this dislocation as the true destination of “thislocation”.
