Securities Commission Malaysia to host World Capital Markets Symposium

World Capital Markets Symposium on August 10-11, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur to promote more in-depth discussion on capital market challenges and Asian perspectives on the global reform agenda in response to the global financial crisis.

Securities Commission Malaysia will host the inaugural World Capital Markets Symposium on August 10-11, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is in line with Malaysia’s commitment to promote more in-depth discussion on capital market challenges and Asian perspectives on the global reform agenda in response to the global financial crisis. The Symposium will have special sessions featuring finance ministers from the region and capital market regulators from around the world discussing policy and regulatory responses to the global financial crisis. Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Tun Razak will deliver a keynote address on the first day of the Symposium, while a second keynote address will be delivered by the Crown Prince of Perak, His Royal Highness Raja Dr Nazrin Shah (who is also the Financial Ambassador to the Malaysia Islamic Financial Center) on the final day. Influential opinion leaders and leading capital market practitioners who will be speaking at the Symposium include: • Professor Paul Krugman (Nobel Laureate; Professor of Economics, Princeton University; New York Times columnist); • Dr Laura D’Andrea Tyson (Economic Adviser to President Barack Obama; Professor of Finance, Haas Business School); • Dr Raghuram G Rajan (Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Professor of Finance, University of Chicago; former IMF Chief Economist); • Dr Mark Mobius (Chairman, Templeton Asset Management); • Dr Munir Majid (Chairman, Malaysia Airlines; Senior Visiting Fellow, London School or Economics IDEAS); • Jin Liqun (Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, China Investment Corporation); • Andrew Sheng (Chief Advisor to the China Banking Regulatory Commission; Adjunct Professor, University Malaya and Tsinghua University); • Charles Prince (Vice Chairman, Stonebridge International LLC); • Takumi Shibata (Chief Operating Officer & Deputy President, Nomura Holdings Inc); • Dr Teh Kok Peng (President, GIC Special Investments, Singapore); • Craig Donohue (Chief Executive Officer, Chicago Merchantile Exchange); and • Kai Nargolwala (Chief Executive Officer, Credit Suisse Asia Pacific).
